By Ifeanyi Okolie

The Federal Government of Nigeria has been urged to overhaul the intelligence gathering agencies in the country to unable it nib terror attacks in the bud.

The International Co-ordinator Security Watch Africa, Mr. Patrick Agbambu who made this call yesterday, during a press briefing on the 8th Security Watch Africa awards and lectures coming on on the October 14th and 14th in Gambia, wants government to step up it intelligence gathering abilities, which he said will remain the only way terror attacks could be curtailed in the country.

Mr. Agambu also called on security agencies in the country to shun inter-agency rivalry and work in close collabration with a view to fighting the menace of Boko Haram and its affiliates. This he said, would put the days of fear and terror behind us.

“At a time of severe security situation in the country, security agencies are expected to work in close collaboration in gathering, assess and processing intelligence in the country.

Security agencies should stop the habit of withholding intelligence reports from their counterparts. I would appreciate a situation where the FG, will create a channel where all security agencies with certain security clearances will access information within their porter.”

The SWA award and lecture will attract guest speakers from several Africa countries including Nigeria.

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Apabio is expected to speak on the topic: “The link between Infrastructure, Human Resource Development and Security in Africa” while his counterpart in Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, is expected to speak on “Building a sustainable security structure in Africa.
