AKURE—THREE suspected kidnappers have been arrested by the police in Ondo State for masterminding the kidnap of a foreigner; Mehmet Emin Erturk and three others including a lecturer in the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, Dr. Tunji Akinlabi.

All the suspects are said to be in their early twenties.

The suspects are presently undergoing interrogation at the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS of the state Police Command.

Police Commissioner Sani Mogaji who described the suspects as professional kidnappers, said they had confessed to have kidnapped four persons within the last five months.

Mogaji said they were arrested by the detectives from the state police command in Effurun in Delta state.

According to him, they confessed to have collected the Automatic Teller Machine, ATM, card of the foreigner while in their custody and used it to withdraw over N200,000 from his account before he was released.

Magaji noted that when it became impossible for the kidnappers to collect ransom from the foreigner they resorted to using his seized ATM card.

They were said to have withdrawn everything in the foreigners account before he was released.

On the kidnap of the FUTA lecturer, Dr Akinlabi, the commissioner, lamented that when it came to ransom, the family did not carry the police along.

He said the family of the lecturer might have paid a huge sum of money before he was released.

The identities of the two other kidnappers were not disclosed but the commissioner said that the four suspects would be paraded on Friday.

It will be recalled that the kidnappers of the lecturer asked for N15m ransom from his family but his colleagues raised unspecified amount of money in attempt to secure his release.

Meanwhile, a yet-to-be identified 15 year old boy was said to have committed suicide around Ondo road area of Akure metropolis.

But his family is alleging a foul play as he was said to have hung himself on a hanger nailed to the wall of their room.

It is being suspected that the boy may have been murdered before his assailant’s faked suicide.

Vanguard gathered that the police have swooped on the residents of the house and made some arrest.

But spokesman of the state police, Adeniran Aremu said that his office was yet to be briefed.
