Nigeria Football Federation has turned the heat on the coaches of the Under-23 team as public confidence on the coaches ability to deliver a ticket for the London 2012 Olympics seems to be waning.
Nigeria will battle Egypt, Algeria, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Senegal and South Africa in a qualifying play-off for who will grab the three automatic slots for the London 2012 Olympics.
A technical committee member of the NFF, stated that the coaches have been told to do all they can to secure a ticket or there will be a review of their status.
“The coaches have no option that to book a place for the London 2012 Olympics.We are giving the team all the necessary support to win get the ticket. We know that Nigerians are not happy with our failure to present a soccer team at the All Africa Games,” said the official.
He said team will begin camping in Portugal come October for the mini-tournament billed for November in Egypt.
The team’s assistant coach, Ben Iroha, stated that Nigeria have no option than to qualify for the London 2012 Games
“We have no excuse not to pick a ticket. After failing to give Nigerians the All Africa Games ticket. “We need to start camping early, and am happy that the Federation understands the need for early camping, quality friendly matches and proper chemistry for the team”
