Obi approves N400m for youth empowerment

AWKA- GOVERNOR Peter Obi of Anambra State said Wednesday that his administration has approved about N400 million for the empowerment of youths in the state who acquired skills under a programme initiated by the state government and Anambra Rebirth, a youth mobilization organization in the state.

The governor, who made this known during the peer review sensitization workshop in Awka, explained that it was part of government’s efforts to reduce unemployment in Anambra State. The workshop was put together by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum in collaboration with the Department for International Development, DFID, of the United Kingdom.

No fewer than 5000 youths in the state have completed the five-day intensive training in various fields to enable them become self-employed. They were attached to privately-owned companies in various parts of the state during the period and the participants were selected from all the 177 autonomous communities in the state.

Areas of training included systems engineering, furniture making, fish farming, computer training, electrical wiring, electronics repair, close circuit television installation, among others.
