LAGOS-Lagos State Police Command has directed members of National Union of Road Transport Workers and motor park touts (agbero), to vacate all areas of their operation, especially on expressways, not designated for their use as parks.
To ensure strict adherence of the directive, the command has begun what it called operation ‘maintain your park’ , with Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of Operations, Mr Tunde Sobulo, leading a detachment of policemen to Iyana-Ipaja under bridge, Monday.
The initiative as explained by spokesman for the command, Mr Samuel Jinadu, was borne out of the need to sanitise the environs by ensuring that criminals did not use non-designated parks as haven for their activities and to ensure a hitch-free traffic in the state.
The operation, which according to him started last week in Ikotun area of the state, would be a continuous one, aimed at ridding the state of activities of miscreant, who he said usually hide under such guise, was achieved.
Policemen, he said, would be drafted on a daily basis to such areas visited, to avoid their (agbero) return.
He warned commercial bus drivers to desist from picking or discharging passengers in areas other than designated bus-stops.
