“We do know that there are distractions and we do know that there are people who cook distractions, we do know there are people who execute distractions, but I want to assure Deltans that I will not be distracted”.
That was a terse statement made by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State during the swearing in of new Commissioners.
He used the occasion to tell the audience that distraction has become his headache. Although he did not expatiate from which quarter the distractions are coming from but Vanguard’s investigation revealed that apart from the political opponents, all is also not well with the PDP family in the State.
And that is the major challenge facing the governor. He is saddled with how to mend broken walls as well as facing the litany of legal battles challenging both his election at the January 6 re run and the April governorship polls.
Aside that the governor is on track and trying to stabilize and leave a lasting legacy that will speak for him when he vacates the Government House Asaba in the next few years.
He insists that the state is on course and vowed not allow himself to be distracted by some detractors who are out to derail his cause.
”Although we have four years, but like I keep reminding us, four years is tomorrow and we are fast-tracking the things we want to do in the next four years; all our developmental plans both infrastructure, Human Capital, Peace and Security; we are fast tracking all our processes and I want to assure all Deltans that we are moving at a very fast pace.
.”I have a job to do, all I pray is for God to give me the strength, to give me the wisdom, to give me the health to do the job that he has given to me. And God that has always answered my prayers, is still answering my prayers till today,” he told Deltans during the swearing in ceremony of commissioners.
In the last 100 days the most conspicuous achievement of the Governor could be said to be the long dream of opening the Asaba Airport. The airport has commenced the operation of commercial flights with Overland airlines being the pioneer carrier. Arik airline came on board with the assurance from the governor that efforts were on top gear to commence international flights.
The administration is also consolidating its programme on poverty alleviation with the upgrading of the hugely successful Micro-Credit scheme into a full fledged ministry.
