ADO-EKITI- Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, yesterday said the 56 years old federal prisons located in the hearts of Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State would be relocated and its present site used for the construction of an Ultra-modern Civic Centre.
The governor announced this while declaring open a forum of Ekiti State Technical Consultative Committee on Culture, Arts and Tourism Development
Fayemi said the plan was part of government’s efforts at improving the tourism sector in the state.
According to him, the Civic Centre would contain a museum, theatre, art gallery, conference hall, among others.
He described Ekiti State as an environment rich in arts and culture, noting that virtually all the towns, villages and settlements could boast of an “amazing display of cultural heritage of the people bound by an enviable history of civilization, love, hospitality and zeal to communal survival.”
“This administration has deliberately placed much premium on the tourism sector hence its prominent place in the 8-point Agenda of the State Government. This importance can further be seen in the creation of a full-fledged Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism with a substantive Commissioner as well as a Special Adviser of cabinet rank to man tourism development.”
