Cleric urges penalty for masterminds of vandalisation in Poly

By CHIDI NKWOPARA
OWERRI—Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Egbu, Professor Emmanuel Iheagwam, has advised the management of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, to punish anybody found to have participated or masterminded the colossal damage done to public property in the school.

Professor Iheagwam made the recommendation when he paid an official visit to the institution, to commiserate with the management over what he termed “the senseless disturbances that took place in the school recently.”

He said: “It is my considered opinion that management should fish out those who unleashed the mayhem and take appropriate action against them.”, Professor Iheagwam said.

The fiery Bishop, who described the level of indiscipline exhibited by the students as “most unfortunate and barbaric”, however expressed hope that when the students return, they will be touched by God to lie low and face their studies.

Responding, the Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Celestina Njoku, described the Bishop’s visit as “a demonstration of love and interest in the development of education, as well as a manifestation of your special interest in the wellbeing of the Polytechnic”
