PORT HARCOURT-In apparent response to reported plans by Boko Haram fundamentalists to bomb some Niger Delta states, the army authorities at 2 Brigade, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have tightened security in the barracks.
Vehicles are thoroughly checked before being allowed into the barracks. Also the back gate had been shut and guarded by soldiers.
Also, a public relations desk had been set up in barracks and it has commenced fresh update of its media list. Media houses covering activities at the barracks have been told to submit names of their correspondents, bureau chiefs and their phone numbers.
Vanguard learnt that plans were on to shut the officers’ mess, which is under reconstruction from non-members. “We still allow friends of the barracks to visit the mess for relaxation, but we must be sure of their identities,” a military source told Vanguard under condition of anonymity.
The situation is the same at the NNS Pathfinder, navy barracks. Vehicles are thoroughly searched before being allowed entry. Motorists are told to alight from their vehicles for properly identification at the gate.
