Onitsha – Chairman of Anambra State wing of Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Mr. Ifeanyi Ofodile, has identified shortage of qualified teachers in primary and post-primary institutions as the cause of dismal performance of students in the Senior Secondary School Certificate examination.
Ofodile, who was reacting to the mass failure of candidates in the recently- released Senior Secondary School Certificate examination results, said the development was as a result of unqualified teachers in certain subjects in secondary schools.
Speaking specifically on Anambra State, the NUT boss suggested that government should lift the embargo on teachers’ recruitment, saying that more than 1000 teachers should be employed yearly for primary and post-primary institutions to remedy the problem.
