ABUJA-The Nigeria Media friends in conjunction with Global Whisper Newspaper will on Tuesday 27th September 2011, at Abuja Sheraton Hotel host some distinguished members of the pen profession who were recently elevated to a grand reception.

According to a statement by the President of the Association, Chris Kehinde Nwandu, those to be hosted are Dr Reuben Abati, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President, Kola Ologbondiyan, Special Adviser to the Senate President, Ogun State Commissioner of  Information, Yusuph Olaniyonu, his counterparts in Edo and Taraba State Louis Odion and Emmanuel Bello as well as Dr Femi Akorede, Senior Special Assistant to Kwara State Governor on Media and Communications.

The honorees were selected because of their exemplary service and contribution to the growth of the noble pen profession in Nigeria.

The event will also serve as an avenue for social interaction amongst members of the profession and colleagues in an atmosphere devoid of the hectic newsroom deadlines that characterizes the profession.

The honorees before their appointments have served the profession in various capacities and remain shining example amongst their peers.

Dr Reuben Abati was for years, the Chairman, Editorial Board of the Guardian Newspaper as well as a Social critic.

Kola Ologbondiyan was reappointed as the Special Adviser  Media to the Senate President after serving in the same capacity for four years. He was at a time the Political Editor of Thisday Newspaper

Yusuph Olaniyonu until recently was a member of the Editorial Board of Thisday Newspaper where he also served as Editor,Thisday on Sunday among other assignments.

Loius Odion was the pioneer Managing Director and Editor in Chief of National Life Newspaper, in between jobs he was an Editor with Thisday and Sun Newspaper.

Emmanuel Bello distinguished himself as a prolific writer. He worked at various media houses including the Daily Trust .He served as a Senior Special Assistant and presently the Commissioner for Media, Communications and Tourism Taraba State; he was the Sunday Editor of Leadership Newspaper.

Dr Femi Akorede started his journalism career at the Guardian, eventually working with the independent weekly and clapperboard television. In 1997, he joined Thisday as assistant editor, rising to the position of deputy editor, Thisday on Saturday. He was appointed the newspapers’ London bureau head in 2000. A position he held until 2006 when he left to focus on his Phd Research. He holds a Phd in International Development from University of East London

The event which starts at 4.00pm will be attended by the who is who in the industry as well as distinguished Nigerians from all works of life.

The Nigeria Media Friends a coalition of distinguished members of the Pen profession in Nigeria was established in 1998 to celebrate its members who over the years have made positive impact in the profession.

To qualify for the honorees list, a member must have been in the profession for no less than ten years and must have risen to a position not less than an Editor in a reputation media organization in the print or electronic media.

Some of its past  honorees in the past includes Mrs Ngozi Nssien,Cyril stobe,Steve Ayorinde,Steve Nwosu,Funke Egbemode,Simon Kolawole,Ijeoma Nwogwugwu,Casmir Igbokwe,Olumide Iyanda,Senator Babafemi Ojudu,Ranti Akerele,Mideno Bayagbon,Ibim Semenitari,Declan Okpaleke,Akin Adeoya to mention but a few.
