35-year old man commits suicide in Sokoto

SOkoto – A 35-year -old man,  Sa’idu Mato who hails from Dauran village in Zurmi local government Area of Zamfara state, was found lifeless and hung on a tree in the early hours of Wednesday at More in Kware local government of Sokoto state.

The deceased, who sells fried sweet potatoes in the area was suspected to have hung himself in the early hours of Wednesday, people residing

in the area told Crime Alert.

According to a resident, who preferred not to mention his name, “This man always comes out to fry sweet potatoes for sale as early as 7am

daily and he was a gentle man to the core.  Nobody will believe that such thing will happen to him.  We suspect fowl play.”

The deceased, who was said to be a local boxer was reportedly returned on boxing trip from Abuja, recently.   Although there was no evidence that the deceased had quarrel with any one, a relative of the late Mato, Malam Sani Usman told newsmen that the deceased may not have killed himself after all.

“I am suspecting that Sa’idu was strangulated to death by some unknown persons in a bid to steal money from him,” he said

The remains of the deceased has been deposited at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto for an autopsy.

Confirming the incident, Spokesman of the State Police Command, ASP Al-Mustapha Sani assured that the police would investigate the

incident with a view to finding the assassin.
