AWKA-MORE than 2,000 newly recruited teachers in Anambra State Tuesday marched through the streets of Awka to condemn the on-going strike embarked upon by workers in the state.
They were the second group in the state to do so, the first being staff of the judiciary who have been carrying out their duties since the strike began.
Dissociating themselves from the strike, the teachers pledged their loyalty to Governor Peter Obi, saying that the recent strike by labour was politically motivated and externally influenced.
According to the teachers, labour in the state was insensitive to the fact that the state government had other contending needs that required money to solve, adding that the most annoying thing was that labour leaders asked workers to stop work as soon as they collected their salary for August which took care of the minimum wage.
Leader of the teachers, Mr. Ebubechukwu Obianuju, thanked Obi for giving them employment after many years of joblessness and appealed to labour to be reasonable in its demand.
They said that it was the highest form of unpatriotism for labour leaders to write donor agencies asking them to stop their support to Anambra and directing Anambra people to stop paying tax.
