A multiple road accident which occurred at Okhuo along the Benin- Ehor- Auchi Road in Edo State  was said to have claimed the lives of  about 17 travellers yesterday.

Sunday Vanguard gathered that the accident  occurred when a trailer travelling from Benin to Edo north  lost control due to break failure and rammed into an eighteen-seater bus, killing all the passengers except one who reportedly suffered serious injuries.

An eye witness account blamed the accident on over speeding by the trailer driver.

Edo State Police Command spokesman, Mr. Peter Ogboi, who confirmed the accident, said that the command was yet to be fully briefed on the cause of the accident and the number of persons who died.

On his part, the National Co-ordinator of the Save Accident Victims of Nigeria (SAVAN), Dr. Eddy Ehikhamenor, said that he had dispatched  SAVAN volunteers  to the scene of accident for rescue operations.
