There were strong indications at the weekend that the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, CNPP, the coalition body for all the other political parties in Nigeria, has reserved a scathing appraisal for President Goodluck Jonathan’s 100 days in office and the body will soon make it public.
A press conference is scheduled to hold where the observations of the members would be made public.
The CNPP, at a meeting last week, also expressed the fear that the way the country was sliding into chaos and anarchy could lead to a situation of a total breakdown of law and order if unchecked.
Sunday Vanguard learnt that some leaders of the CNPP – Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Peoples redemption Party, PRP, National Concience Party, NCP, and PAC – attended the meeting held at the CPC national headquarters.
It was gathered that participants “were all invited for the meeting of the CNP P to deliberate on the state of the nation, as well as assess the first one hundred (100) days in office of Mr. President”.
One of the participants at the meeting “explained that it was on the basis of the above that the CPC spoke (those invited) to see how they could discuss on some disturbing issues in the polity, including the prevailing security situation, the alleged battering of the judiciary, the unfulfilled promise of public power supply, the deplorable socio-economic situation, and the continuous depletion of the nation’s foreign reserve.
He viewed all of the above as worrisome development in the country”.
”The above disclosures”, the participants agreed, “are facts that all Nigerians are quite aware of”, adding:”It has become incumbent on them to hold a press conference on Mr. President’s first 100 days in office, to use the occasion to tell Nigerians that the way things are going in the country, anything can happen”.
