The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ondo/Ekiti Command has raked in N80.5million in its operations from January to June 2011, just as it also garnered N15.2million in revenue generation for the month of July.
The new Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Comptroller David Awofadeju, made this known while briefing newsmen on the activities of the Command, during the officers’ parade organised by the zone to cerebrate officers for outstanding performance.
According to him, revenue generation in July was the highest since the beginning of the year. “The Command is a region known for low economic activities, therefore motivation and empowerment of officers became necessary to enhance their performance. July this year broke the record of the highest revenue in the history of the command in the past 32 years.”
Awofadeju conducted newsmen round some of the seizures such as fairly used cars, frozen chicken and turkey, second hand clothing, ladies’ hand bags, shoes and television.
“Through the anti-smuggling campaign of the service, we also recorded three seizures with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N5.2million recently. Also, we commend the initiative of the people within our command in coming forward to pay appropriate import duties without waiting for customs to compel them”, he said.
