Benue State Chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, and the Gabriel Suswam-led state government, at the weekend, alleged plans by the opposition elements in the state to derail the work of the Election Tribunal set up over the last governorship election.
The party and the state government specifically accused the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, of working hard at instigating violence and preventing the tribunal from successfully sitting over the case. In a statement yesterday by the Benue State Commissioner for Information, Conrad Wegba, the government alleged that a meeting of ACN chieftains was held on Friday, August 6, in the Abuja home of one of the party’s leaders where plans were said to have been perfected to cause a state of massive violence in Benue to halt the work of the election tribunal.
“It is very unfortunate that those who claim to be democrats and believers in the rule of law are the ones resorting to tactics of the jungle in the matter they instituted,” said Wegba.
