Omojuwa group empowers Ajegunle youths

By Bose Adelaja

No fewer than 200 youths in Ajegunle area of Lagos have become beneficiaries of an empowerment programme packaged by Omojuwa solidarity Group in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Council Development Area LCDA, of the State.

A technocrat, Tunde Omojuwa, who initiated the scheme, said the empowerment programme was part of his own contribution to reduce the rate of unemployment among Ajegunle youths, adding that many of the youths have bagged scholarship into various institutions of learning, while others were trained in various vocations to become mechanics, seamstresses, drivers, electricians, among others.

Many of the youths, he said, have also become security operatives after which they have secured employment in various companies in the state.

Three of the youths, Bright Sam, Adedimeji Aare and Musibau Iredele said the scheme was instrumental to their success, adding that they were living from hand to mouth before they came in contact with Omojuwa about three years ago.

‘’We were a group of five who have concluded plans to join a robbery gang before our encounter with Engineer Omojuwa who persuaded us to turn away from crime. As at today, we are now independent and have ceased to associate with bad friends. We come from a poor background where our parents cannot afford to take up our responsibility but things are getting better,’’ they chorused.

In a chat with Vanguard Metro, Omojuwa said the programme was borne out of his passion to restore his immediate community, adding that the youths were his first port of call. “Having seen poverty in the land, I asked God to use me to make their lives worth living. I am dedicated to the cause of my people and I shall not look back until the situation improves,” he said.
