Yenagoa – Four persons were injured and 10 others arrested for alleged involvement in the violent cult clash that rocked the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, election in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The election was, however, won by Mr. Mohammed Duada, a student of University of Jos and was congratulated by eight other candidates and Governor Timipre Sylva.

The quick intervention of men of the state special security outfit, Operation Famou Tangbe led by its Commander, Aniette Eyoh prevented the clash from degenerating and spreading to other parts of the capital city.

Vanguard learnt that the skirmish, which occurred Monday night at the high brow Alamieyeseigha Way caused anxiety among residents.

Four students were seriously injured and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, were they are currently receiving treatment.

The violence, according to some students, was instigated by one of the candidates, who brought members of a cult group to foment trouble with a view to having an upper hand at the poll.

But this was reportedly resisted by delegates belonging to another cult group, leading to the violent skirmish before men of the Famou Tangbe raced to scene and restored normalcy.

Speaking on the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Emokpae Eguavoen,  said the injured students were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa for treatment.

He confirmed that the quick intervention of the men of the state security outfit, Operation Famou Tamgbe, prevented the violent clash from spreading to other hotels in the state capital city housing  delegates to the NANS election.
