As part of its its corporate citizenship initiatives, Guinness Nigeria Plc has given Guinness Eye Centre at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) a face lift with the painting of its facility, replacement of the external signage and furniture.
Under its CSR, Guinness Nigeria had sponsored two eye centres in Nigeria including the second one located in Ontisha, Anambra State.
Speaking at the reception, Sesan Sobowale, Corporate Relations Director of the said that Guiness will continue to support the Guinness Eye Centres to sustain it as centres of excellence for eye care.
“The face-lift of the Guinness Eye Centre LUTH demonstrates our passion for community involvement and humanitarian service which is the focus of our corporate citizenship initiatives in Nigeria”.he said.
In his reaction, Professor Akin Osibogun Chief Medical Director of LUTH said that he was pleased with Guinness Nigeria’s involvement in sustaining the Eye Centre for 49 years stating that the Centre would continue to deliver excellent eye care to patients. He thanked Guinness Nigeria their support and look forward to a continued partnership.
Meanwhile, Sesan Sobowale, Corporate Relations Director, accompanied by Adrianne Nwagwu Corporate Social Responsibility Manager both of Guinness Nigeria handed over the refreshed Guinness Eye Centre LUTH to the hospital management during a visit to the Centre.
It would be recalled that the Guinness Eye Centre at LUTH was opened in 1962 and has since then successfully delivered eye care services to numerous Nigerians.
In 2010, Guinness Nigeria, in partnership with the management of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, upgraded the Eye Centre with laser eye equipment worth N7million.
This year, the Eye Centre is being treated to a facelift which includes the painting of the facility, the replacement of the external signage and furniture. Guinness Nigeria sponsors two eye centres in Nigeria, the second one located in Ontisha, Anambra State.
Before now, the Guinness Eye Centres has enjoyed continuous support through subventions such as provision of Before equipment and restoration of infrastructure.
Guinness Nigeria has been committed to enriching the communities in which it operates and has continued to demonstrate this through its investment in a variety of community projects which include the Diageo Water of Life Scheme.
The Water of Life scheme has successfully established 19 water projects across Nigeria of which 5 mini water works and 20 hand pumps are situated in Lagos State. There are other mini water works located in Kwara, Nassarwa and Ekiti amongst others.
In 2005, the employees of Guinness Nigeria formed the “Friends of the Community”, a charity-driven initiative in which employees donate resources and volunteer in their host communities.
