Ghana friendly, not a do or die – Rufai

By Ime Bassey

Veteran Nigerian goalkeeper, Peter Rufai has appealed to Nigerians not to see the Ghana/Nigeria friendly as a must win for Samson Siasia’s Eagles.

The former Deportivo de La Coruña goalkeeper said that attention should be on building a solid Super Eagles for the future and not winning the encounter.

He also expressed optimism that the team will come out victorious as he knows  Siasia loves to win.

“I know it is a derby game, but I want us to look at it from the perspective of building a team for the future and not winning. I do not want us to nurture the mind set that tells Siasia to beat Ghana at all cost, making it a do or die affair.

If we put him in tight corner, it will leave him with an approach of winning which I believe will obstruct his team’s building process. All we need to tell him now should be, build a team with a structure that every age grade player will know how to adjust his games to fit-in the Super Eagles. This in turn will help us have a perfect team longed for.
