AWKA – Following the lingering crisis in Ogbunka and Owerre-Ezukala in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, the senator representing Anambra South senatorial district, Senator Andy Uba, has appealed to the warring factions to embrace peace.
Uba said: “Only lasting peace can bring development and progress to the state.
“I learnt with dismay the communal clash in Orumba South council between Ogbunka and Owerre-Ezukala communities, which had claimed several lives and property worth millions of naira.
“I appeal to the leaders of these communities to cease further hostilities in the area. There is no need for this senseless destruction of property and loss of human lives. There is no crisis that cannot be resolved with dialogue between neighbours. We should learn to be our neighbour’s keepers.”
On steps taken to restore peace to the areas, he said: “I intend to use my office to facilitate this dialogue. We should work towards peaceful and amicable resolution of this conflict to restore peaceful co-existence among neighbours. I believe God will help us to achieve this.”
As part of efforts to resolve the face off, Senator Uba is expected to embark on a peace mission to the communities this weekend.
It will be recalled that property worth millions of naira had been destroyed since the crisis erupted over disputed land.
