A 24-year-old tricycle rider, Kingsley Onwuzurike, has been sentenced to two weeks imprisonment by a Somolu Magistrates Court, Lagos for violating traffic rules.
Handing down her verdict after Onwuzurike pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of driving against traffic and driving without road worthiness, the trial Magistrate, Senior Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi convicted him to one week imprisonment on each count.
To lessen Onwuzurike’s burden, the court however granted him an option to pay a fine of N6,000.
A police Inspector, Adegoke Akinlebi, who prosecuted the case had accused Onwuzuruike of driving his three-wheeler vehicle popularly known as Keke NAPEP, against traffic on July 1 at Asani St., Bariga, contrary to Section 17 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State. He added that the accused drove a tricycle that was not road worthy.
