A SCHOOL proprietor, Mr. Jacob Okupevi has blamed the falling standard of education in the country on the failure of successive governments, parents and the Media to address the problems in the education sector with the desired attention.

Bogged by the massive failure recorded at the just concluded Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) examination, the proprietor of A Prince With God Nursery and Primary School in Mushin, a suburb of Lagos said the three groups should be held responsible for the poor performance of students.

The proprietor who made this assertion during the silver jubilee celebration of the school, pointed out that lack of continuity; inconsistent governmental policies, have been the bane educational development in the country.

Mr. Akupevi also challenged parents who, he accused of inducing teachers to help their wards to pass examinations, stressing that the Media must lend its weight to develop the nation’s education, saying education is the gateway to social, political and economic development.

According to him, as the former 6-3-3-4 educational system has failed, so also the current universal basic education 6-9-3 which was introduced in 1999 has not yielded any positive result, pointing out that governments are only shying away from their responsibilities.

Speaking further, Mr. Okupevi who has been in the vanguard of imparting education to the Nigerian youths for almost 27 years, lamented that the standards of Nigerian education have been drastically eroded for quite some time, adding that before now schools were properly administered and discipline was enforced.
