KADUNA-Five persons were killed, Monday night, in Kaduna when an 18-seater bus rammed into a broken down trailer on a bridge in the metropolis.
The accident, which occurred at about 10pm, left eight other passengers in the commercial bus seriously injured.
An eyewitness told Vanguard that, “the driver departed from the Sheik Mahammed Gumi Central Market area of the city and was heading to Ungwar Romi, a Kaduna suburb. He was on high speed when it ran into the trailer.”
The Public Relations Officer, Kaduna Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Superintendent Yunusa Ibrahim, confirmed the incident, saying that the driver of the commercial bus must have been, not only on a high speed,but also under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Yunusa, however, added that the FRSC personnel swung into action immediately they got the information and tried to rescue some of the victims.
He said: “We got to the accident scene as soon as we heard about it and tried to rescue those that survived. We took them to the Saint Gerard’s Hospital and the four that died instantly to the mortuary.
“In order to avoid similar incidents, the FRSC personnel were stationed at the scene of the accident between 10pm to 4am today (yesterday).”
Meanwhile, FRSC has already towed the broken down trailer to its office along Ali Akilu Road.
