IBADAN – One unidentified person was yesterday confirmed dead while four others were trapped after an uncompleted two-storey building collapsed at Oleyo, Odo Ona Elewe in Oluyole Local Government area of Oyo State.
Four other persons working on the site were also injured, while those who escaped unhurt, were seen thanking God.
An official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Olujide Akindele, who ventured into the debris to rescue some of those trapped, confirmed the death.
He said the man was already dead when he got in as heavy debris held dead man by the waist.
Relatives of those trapped thronged the scene of accident calling their names and phone numbers to ascertain if they were still alive.
According to information gathered, the building collapsed at about 10am, when the workers were busy at work.
Speaking with newsmen about the unfortunate incident, the immediate past interim chairman of the local government, Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan, expressed sadness, saying “This is not the time to start apportioning blame. We must rescue those trapped first. It is after that that investigation can be carried out to ascertain the cause of the collapse.”
