Okorocha lauds journalists on democracy

BY CHIDI NKWOPARA

OWERRI – Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has described Nigerian journalists as the doyen  of democracy and biggest fighters against ills of the society.

The governor made the remark yesterday when he received in audience President of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mallam Shehu Garba, at Government House, Owerri.

Okorocha said  he would operate a corruption-free administration and focus on the welfare of  the masses in the state.

He said “This administration will not embark on any new project until abandoned and on-going projects awarded by previous governments are completed.”

On how he would tackle  unemployment in the state, the governor said all unemployed people would be trained on different skills that would make them self-reliant.

Speaking earlier, the NUJ President said Nigerian journalists had been closely monitoring the governor’s policies and programmes, especially the newly introduced free education system in primary and secondary schools.
