By Evelyn Usman

Tragedy struck, weekend in Ikotun area of Lagos after a woman and her two children were roasted to death in a fire that engulfed their apartment. The cause of the inferno which also destroyed property which monetary value is yet to be estimated, could not be immediately ascertained, but unconfirmed report said it could have been caused by a lit candle which the woman identified as, Mrs Ojo, left before retiring to bed.

Eye witnesses said occupants of the building located on Feyintola street were jolted from sleep Sunday night, following an alarm of fire raised by one of them. They all rushed out of their respective apartments, with some of them managing to salvage their belongings, only to discover the fire was from the boys quarters.

Sympathizers who had gathered, tried to no avail to put out the fire, until the arrival of fire service men who acted promptly and prevented it from spreading to other apartments.

The charred remains of Mrs Ojo, her four -year-old daughter, Rachael and one-year-old Richard, were later discovered inside their apartment. Policemen from Ikotun who were contacted, removed the corpses to Isolo General hospital mortuary.
