LAGOS — Ahead of the October 22 local government elections in Lagos State, residents have been charged to allow peace to reign and shun acts of rigging and violence to ensure a credible poll.
This came as Senator Gbenga Ashafa, representing Lagos East Senatorial district, weekend, paid a condolence visit to the widow and family of late Alhaji Al-Mustaim Abaniwonda, who was found dead in a Lagos lagoon, last week.
Ashafa in his condolence message, described Abaniwonda as very special person, peace-loving and easy going, adding that he would be greatly missed.
On the need for free and fair council polls, a chairmanship aspirant on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Mr Yinus Shabi, urged the people of Yaba Local Council Development Area, LCDA, to ensure they participate fully in the coming council elections.
Shabi said it had became necessary to stop those with inordinate ambition from hijacking the will of the people at all cost, adding: “We should take our destinies in our hands.”
He noted that the people of Yaba LCDA deserves more than what had been offered them by the current administration, assuring that he will deliver real dividends of democracy the people, if given the mandate to serve.
