The Nigeria Football Federation has said that the August 9 international friendly between the Super Eagles and the Black Stars of Ghana in Watford, England would be a launch pad for the Eagles to strategise ahead of the crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar in September.

Speaking on the backdrop of insinuations that the match could be a distraction to the team which should be thinking of the match in Antananarivo,  chairman of the technical committee, Chris Green said “the match would afford coach Samson Siasia an opportunity to bring the team together after the off season break and prepare them ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Madagascar. Anybody who thinks otherwise is missing the point.”

Asked if the repentant Super Eagles and West Brom striker, Osaze Odemwinge will feature in the match against Ghana, Green said, “although I will admit that there is no problem between Osaze and Siasia, I cannot confirm if he will feature in the match. It all depends on the coach. If the coach wants him for the match you will see him. We have given the coach a free hand to run the show. We are not going to interfere.”

“Siasia is saddled with the responsibility of managing the national team. Where we cannot be happy with him is if he loses the match. With or without Osaze.”

He denied knowledge of any match with Argentina, saying vehemently, “the only friendly match that I know of is the one against Ghana on the 9th.”

On the U-23 Eagles, the chairman of the technical committee said the NFF had made its position clear. “Appropriate steps will be taken to ensure we move forward,” he said.
