The Yenagoa branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was on Friday gutted by fire.
No life was, however, lost during the incident which reportedly caused apprehension among residence of Osiri Road in the Ekeki suburb of the capital where the temporary office of the apex bank is located.
The timely intervention of men of the Bayelsa State Fire Service, sources told Sunday Vanguard, prevented the sprawling edifice from being razed by the inferno.
Though the cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained, it was gathered that the inferno might have been triggered by electrical spark caused by thunder storm that accompanied a downpour.
It was gathered that the inferno did not cause much damage to the office complex which was commissioned late last year by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, before it was put out as a result of the quick intervention of men of the state fire service aided by the accessibility of the area.
Efforts to get the staff of the apex bank to comment proved abortive as they were not prepared to speak on the matter just as the armed policemen on duty prevented people from going close to the building.
The state police public relations officer, Mr. Eguavoen Emokpae (ASP), said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
