Ekiti denies alleged sack of 5,000 council workers

By Gbenga Ariyibi
ADO-EKITI—EkitiState Government yesterday denied sacking any local government worker, saying it was only doing staff audit.

Meantime, a socio-cultural group in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti Justice Group, EJG, has berated Governor Kayode Fayemi for the purported sack of about 5,000 local government workers.

Commissioner for Information, Communication, Civil Orientation and Strategy, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye, at a briefing in Ado Ekiti, said government was continuing with a reform process started by the last regime in the state.

He argued that reforms should not be misconstrued to mean  that all the 5,000 workers were going to be sacked.

The Commissioner said: ‘’l want anybody that has his or her names pasted on the notice board to come up and show whether there is any sack letter to back it up. l want to assure you that government has not sacked anybody, the motive behind the pasting of names of civil servants on the notice boards  was to confirm their status. Government is going to see the veracity of the status of the employees.”

Afuye , however  declared that “laws will naturally take its course for those who have a bad case as this will be treated as an act of criminality.”
