The Managing Partner, Pure Gold Consult, Mr Oluwakemi Oshiga, has said that the problem bedevilling the education sector is more of facilities than teachers as we have good teachers who can compete favourably with teachers in the United Kingdom.

The education standard in the country he said has taking another dimension entirely as we cannot say it is falling or rising, however, what we lack in Nigeria is basically the facilities for efficient education.

“We have good teachers in this country. I have been to teachers’ conferences in the United Kingdom and part of Africa and discovered that they are not better of as we can compete favorably with them and they even respect us for that.

The solution to this downward trend is training and retraining of teachers and good remuneration,” Oshiga said.

Speaking at a quiz competition held recently at Ronik Comprehensive School , Ejigbo, where over thirteen schools in Lagos gathered to showcase the stuff they were made of, the Managing Partner Pure Gold Consul stated that apart from giving our children basic academic knowledge, there is need to makes them know more about their country, environment and global issues.

Giving reasons for this initiative, he reiterated that the Organisation intends to achieve friendship, citizenship and good qualities leadership in the students through healthy competition and periodic teaching.

For example, he noted that each student was allotted just five minute to speak on a given topic. According to the consultant, this, in a way will build leadership boldness and qualities that will enable them prepare at all time to answer impromptu questions.

He argued that the best method to train tomorrow leaders is not to teach them science and technology alone but to impact good leadership qualities into them as anyone could posses all mathematic formula and sciences without leadership quality could lead him bombing the nation.

But if you are patriotic and discover something that will hut your country, you will not do it.

Also speaking, the Vice Principal of Ronik Comprehensive School, Mr Ajao Yinka said: “the essence of the quiz competition is to create awareness in our students who are the future leaders of this country on the need for good neighborliness and citizenship in our country.”

As future leaders, he maintained that they need to be conscious of the fact that they have a lot at stake saying that the only way to prepare them is for them to know what it takes to become a leader vis-à-vis, the fundamental character you need to possess as a leader.

He charged the students to note the things our leaders have failed to do and be able to correct the anomaly when they take up leadership responsibilities.

For the primary school quiz competitions, Apata Memorial School, Isolo came first while second position goes to Upper Crest School, Magodo as third place goes to Ronik International, Ejigbo.

In the secondary school contest, Morality School, Egbeda took the first position as second position goes to Oluade School Isolo while the host, Ronik Comprehensive School, Ejigbo came third.

At the end of the contest, prizes were presented by Ronik Principal, Mrs Mogbonjubola Ejirinde to the three best students.
