AWKA— THE Anglican Bishop on the Niger, Rt. Reverend Owen Nwokolo, has attributed restiveness among Nigerian youths to unemployment and inability of government to provide other needs of the people.
The cleric who spoke at the graduation of St. Christopher’s Seminary, Onitsha, weekend, observed that government had the obligation to meet aspirations of the people, adding that when these aspirations were not met, the tendency was for the youths to react.
Nwokolo said the Niger Delta restiveness and Boko Haram uprising in parts of the North had roots in inadequacies the people, adding that the people felt they were suffering in the midst of plenty.
Nwokolo added that equipping the youths ideally would go a long way towards curbing the menace.
On the controversial Islamic banking system, Nwokolo said Christians were not happy at the manner the Federal Government and CBN were handling the issue.
“It is deceptive to tell the people that the bank operates without profit in mind. As far as we are concerned, the Islamic banking system is a subtle way of propagating Islam,” he said.
He urged President Goodluck Jonathan tell CBN to limit the operations of the bank to only Muslims.
