At last, Dangerous Men premières @ Silverbird

Last year, he was banned by the National Film and Video Censors Board(NFCVB). But the action-packed-thriller “Dangerous Men”, co-produced by an American based Nigerian film maker Mr. GuGu E. Michaels and Christian Nwankpa, has finally hit the cinemas across the country.

The two-part movie premiered at Silverbird Cinemas, Lagos, last Sunday, amidst applauds. It was banned few days to the commencement of its showing at the Silverbird and Genesis Deluxe Cinemas last year. The Emeka Mba-led censors board claimed the film portrayed the country in a negative light.

However, the ban was lifted recently to herald the premiere which recorded an impressive outing at Silverbird.

GuGu who also directed and played a lead role in the film could not make it to the premiere, but in his absence, his partner, Christian Nwankpa told HVP that while they agreed to remove certain scenes, they did not in any way compromise in the area of the storyline, the action or the quality of the pictures.

According to him, “the censors was concerned with the fact that we should not lay emphasis on specific like mentioning Nigeria or Abuja in the movie.”

Describing the ban slammed on the film as “a shocking experience”, Nwankpa said they were interested in capturing the global market when they set out to produce the movie.

“This movie is not a normal Nollywood movie, we decided that if we are going to produce a movie, it must be for the Nigerian audience alone. But we were looking at the global market. That’s why in the making of the movie, we took our time in the area of casting, the story, music and the sound effects.

The post-production took us about 90 days to complete. The lead actors were taken to the trench for about a month to enable them ally with the role.

Nwankpa said, the success of the premiere will determine the next step they will follow as they have already started working on part II of the movie, which he described as “mind-blowing.”
