Appointment: Senator makes case for FCT indigenes

BY HENRY UMORU

ABUJA-THE senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, yesterday protested the non-inclusion of indigenes of the territory in the names submitted by President Goodluck Jonathan to the Senate for confirmation.

Addressing newsmen yesterday, Aduda, a former member of the House of Representatives, also insisted that the inhabitants should be considered for other public service appointments and ambassadorial posting, in line with the status of the FCT.

He said the FCT submitted 10 names to the President, like every other state, stressing that its denial of a ministerial slot was a case of social injustice.

The senator, who was flanked by the member representing Abaji/ Kwali/ Kuje/ Gwagwalada Federal Constituency, Isa Dobi, noted that the people of the territory observed with dismay the recent appointment of ministers to the federal cabinet without representation from FCT, noting also that the board of the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, had no indigene of the FCT.

He said:  “We seek that FCT inhabitants be considered for ministerial slots and other public service appointments in line with its status as one of the states of the federation,  according to section 299 of the 1999 Constitution.”
