Port Harcourt – The Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Front (NDPSF) has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to lay the foundation for the transformation of the country into an industrialised nation.
The group’s General Secretary, Mr Mark Olise, said on Thursday that for the nation to achieve an industrialised status, the new administration must prioritise power generation.
“The idea of transforming Nigeria into an industrial haven within the African continent and the world at large will remain an illusion without a policy to ensure adequate power generation.
“This challenge we insist, must be considered as priority by this present government,” he said in Port Harcourt.
According to Olise, Nigeria is long overdue for uninterrupted electricity power supply to drive its economic development processes.
He said, “No foreign investor will take us seriously if we keep inviting them to a dark country.”
The NDPSF scribe said that the group was ready to work with the president to ensure that poverty was reduced in the Niger Delta region.
“We hope to walk together through the path of honour and with the consciousness that is needed for you to serve with humility, destiny and forthrightness,” he said.
Olise urged Jonathan to appoint credible men and women, who have the country at heart, into his cabinet.
According to him, the quality of a leader can only be estimated from the character of men around him.
He warned the president to beware of political jobbers, who could, for their selfish interests, derail his good intention for the country. (NAN)
