COMMISSIONER for Police  Rivers State command, who is also the Chairman of the Garden City Games security sub committee, Mr Suleiman Abba mni has assured all  the participants  at the Sports Festival of adequate security.

The Police Commissioner said that the hosting of the festival was not only  important to the hosting state , but to the nation in general. Said Abba, “in view of the importance of the the responsibility of the Police  and other security and Law enforcement agencies during the period of the games, Rivers State Police Command has adequately prepared its personnel for the  provision of effective security.

Similarly, our colleagues in the Armed Forces,  the Army, Navy and Air Force as well as the Joint Task Force (JTF) have made  robust deployment that would give the desired support the police  and the state  security services require to achieve the grand objective.”
He said about 6,000 police personnel have been deployed for proper security of  all participants at the festival.”

He added, “for those who would not listen and choose the wrong path of planning  to commit crime, let me reiterate with every sense of seriousness, the Police  and other security agents have been directed to appropriately deal with you by  exposing and arresting offenders”.

According to the National and Local Organising Committee, the games will be competed by participating states in the designatede venues. Some of  which are  Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka  Stadium, for athletics / paraathletics, basketball,  handball and hockey, boxing and karate,: Sports hall of University of Port  Harcourt, Badminton, boxing and karate, Port Harcourt Club darts, judo, golf and  long tennis: Main  Hall Civic Centre, Gymnastics, Liberation Stadium for  football, NULGE Hall for chess: Varoius Roads cycling.

However an elaborate opening and closing ceremony will be held at the Liberation  Stadium, Elekahia on  3rd and 9th July respectively.
