PENGASSAN  re-elects Ogun president

Members of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, have re-elected Comrade Babatunde Ogun as the president to run the affairs of the association for the next three years.

Comrade Ogun, whose first term of three years ended on June 2, 2011, was re-elected for the second term of three years on June 2, 2011, during the 3rd National Delegates’ Conference in Abuja.

Comrade Ogun, who was elected along with eight other members of the Central Working Committee (CWC), emerged the president after a competitive election, where he polled 287 votes as against 109 votes scored by his opponent, Comrade Ethelbert Uka.

In his acceptance speech, the re-elected president, who lauded the delegates for their patience, determination and endurance during the election period, said that the efforts of the delegates to choose a new team to lead PENGASSAN for the next three years was to energise the team for a strong and modern industrial relations system in the oil and gas industry.

He promised that the next three years will be used to build and develop a knowledge-based system in which all branch executives of the association will be tutored in emerging global industrial relations system for prompt resolution of industrial relation issues.

“Our executives at the branch and zonal levels must catch up with the emerging trends in industrial relations. In the process of our administration, we will welcome objective criticisms from members to keep us on our toes in our pursuit to take this association to the greatest height,” he said.

Other members of the association who emerged unopposed during the Delegates Conference are Comrade Emmanuel Umoru Adamu, Deputy President; Comrade Hyginius Chika Unegbu, National Industrial Relations Officer; Comrade Segun Jaiyeola, Auditor 1.

Comrade Sunday Ogadi polled 234 votes to defeat Comrade Raymond Nnah, who polled 123 votes to become the Financial Secretary; while Comrade Zaid Kolawole emerged the National Publicity Secretary with 247 votes against 109 votes scored by Comrade Rotimi Odenusi; Comrade Ijeoma Dom-Nwachukwu defeated Comrade Rose Orji-Kalu with 225 votes to 157 votes to become the Chairperson of Women-in-PENGASSAN; and Comrade Dickson Najemo lost to Comrade D. T. Amanah for Auditor 2 position.
