Abuja – President Goodluck Jonathan has dissolved the PDP Presidential Campaign Council.
Jonathan announced the dissolution of the Council at a valedictory dinner held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.
He thanked members of the Council for their commitment to the course of the PDP as well as their excellent performance during the April general elections.
He said: “finally myself and Namadi Sambo emerged victorious because some of you were so committed to the course; you risked your life, risked your properties and risked your reputation.
“If we did not win, it would have been a problem, but even as we have won the election, we have more challenges because for you to move on the streets of this country and raise your hands will depend on our own performance because if we perform poorly some of the people would even stone you.
“So, we have no choice than to work hard; to work with you to make sure that we make significant changes in this country.’’
The president assured members of the Council that they would continue to play active roles in the party.
In his remarks at the occasion, the acting Chairman of PDP, Dr Haliru Bello, expressed gratitude to all members of the Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation and the Presidential Campaign Council for their efforts in ensuring electoral victory for the PDP in the elections.
The Director-General of the Campaign Council, Dr Sarki Tafida, thanked President Jonathan for making their assignment much easier because “the president was a sellable candidate’’.
He assured that members of the defunct Goodluck/Sambo Campaign organisation and the Presidential Campaign Council would continue to work for the progress of the PDP and for Nigeria in general.
The valedictory dinner witnessed musical performance by popular Nigerian musicians and comedians and was attended by PDP members from across the country. (NAN)
