Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal has emerged Speaker of the House of Representatives in a keenly contested race between him and Mulikat Akande-Adeola.
Voting for the Speaker of the House of Representatives is ongoing at the inauguration of the of the Seventh National Assembly which is been inaugurated today.
Out of the 360 members of the House of Representatives the contenders for the post of the Speaker of the House of Representatives are Aminu Tambuwal, Mulikat Akande-Adeola and Muraina Ajibola.
Aminu Tambuwal, from the north west and Mulikat Akande-Adeola this afternoon were nominated by the members- elect leaving out Muraina Ajibola.
Aminu Tambuwal enjoys the support of the many of opposition members while Mulikat Akande-Adeola is strongly backed by the ruling party PDP.
About 220 members of the House of Representatives are from the People Democratic Party while the opposition parties have 140 members.
