YOLA-No fewer than 36 people mainly women and children have died while many others are hospitalised following the outbreak of diarrhea in some communities in Mubi South and Maiha local government areas of Adamawa State.

The illness starts with symptoms of coughing, vomiting, and fever before the victim becomes unconscious and dies.

Vanguard  learnt that the outbreak of the disease has become a yearly occurrence as the various governments are yet to find solutions to it.

However, as the number of those hospitalised as a result of the epidemic continue to increase on daily basis, it is believed that the latest incident might not be unconnected with the raining season which is allegedly washing poisonous substances such as fertilisers from the farms into the wells and streams which are the major sources of drinking water in the areas.

So far, 19 persons had reportedly died in Mubi South Local Government Area while 17 others were confirmed dead in Maiha Local Government Area following the outbreak of the illness.

There is, however, general apprehension in the affected communities as nobody knows whose turn it was to die.

One Mathias Gumpi who claimed to be the acting medical officer for Mubi South Local Government Area said the council was not sure whether the sickness was cholera, adding, however, that medical tests on some of the samples were going to determine what would be done.
