ABUJA – Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega, has attributed the huge success recorded in the 2011 general elections in the country to the role played by Nigerian Air Force.

According to him, the Air Force released all its flying platforms for the logistics use of the commission during the elections and voters registration.

Speaking when he paid a thank you visit to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar, Jega said:  “If there is any single organisation, apart from INEC, that can claim credit for the success of the 2011 voters registration and the April general elections, it is the Nigerian Air Force.”

Emphasizing the pivotal role the service played, especially during the elections, Jega said the Air Force availed INEC of all its aircraft for distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive materials.

He also commended Air Marshal Umar for his leadership  and prayed  God to reward the sacrifices made by the officers and airmen.

Responding, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Umar, commended the excellent job done by INEC during the 2011 general elections, despite daunting challenges.

He said: “INEC under Prof Jega’s leadership has, no doubt, made Nigerians and Nigeria proud at home and abroad in the way the 2011 elections were transparently and professionally conducted.”
