ADO-EKITI — A socio-political group, The Ekiti Patriots, TEP, has called the bluff of some of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, caucus in the National Assembly from Ekiti State, saying they are only serving their personal interests, rather than the interest of the generality of the people of the state.
The group described the lawmakers’ condemnation of the list of nominees for Federal appointments submitted by the State chapter of the party as selfish and parochial, adding that, “some of the PDP National Assembly members contributed to the party’s dismal performance in the April 26 elections.”
Reacting to the claim by the lawmakers that they were not consulted before the leadership of the party arrived with the 10 nominees sent to the national headquarters of the party in Abuja, the group in a statement signed by its Convener, Comrade Ebenezer Olaleye said majority of the National Assembly members lacked moral rights to seek their inclusion in the list.
The group further alleged that the lawmakers were protesting against the list because their names were not shortlisted.
“If the National Assembly members that are complaining now had played the roles expected of loyal party members before and during the general elections, the results of the April 26 National and State Assemblies elections would have been different. But because some of them lost the party’s primaries, they opted to stand aloof while some of them even funded opposition candidates in the name of town agenda.
If we may ask them, how many of them won elections in their polling units not to talk of their wards or local council? Even Hon. Duro Faseyi, the person who is speaking on behalf of the caucus, did he win his Ilejemeje Local Government in all the elections?
“Instead of them to bury their heads in shame, they are still complaining that their names are not included in the list of nominees for federal appointments or that they were not consulted before the list was arrived at. Honestly, these people have no shame at all!”
It, however called on all members of the party to bury their personal ambition for now and plan how to revive the party to a formidable one as it used to be in the past
“What should be of utmost importance to lovers of the PDP in Ekiti State now is how to revive the party and make it strong as it was before.
Irrespective of personal ambition, leaders of the PDP in the State, including members of the national assembly should be cracking their brains on rebuilding the party and not how to perpetrate themselves in public office.”
