ABUJA—THE Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Caucus in the House of Representatives may have thrown its weight behind the Deputy Whip of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, as the next Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Vanguard gathered, yesterday, that the caucus has also endorsed House Whip, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, for Deputy Speaker.
Tambuwal, the only member from the North_West, is aspiring to be the Speaker of the House, and is understood to be working for the emergence of the Chief Whip, Emeka Ihedioha, to be Deputy.
Vanguard further learnt that the CPC caucus met on Sunday, May 22, at Transcorp Hilton Hotel from 8:00pm till 9:18pm where Hon. Tambuwal was endorsed.
One of the members of the caucus, Rep. Aliyu Gebi, CPC, Bauchi Central, told Vanguard that the caucus will go for Mallam Tambuwal.
He said the caucus met on Sunday over several issues including a most “appropriate choice” for Speakership, adding: “We are going to choose leaders very soon and it is only natural that we should go for the people’s choice.”
He said the choice of the SouthWest for the helmsman of the Green Chamber was “wrong” in the face of the present political realities on ground.
Members of the CPC Caucus were sighted on Sunday in the Asokoro residence of Rep. Ihedioha, where Vanguard gathered they had gone to assure him of their votes on the floor next week.
In a chat with Vanguard, Mr. Ihedioha, said “contrary to some media reports, “The CPC is with us and has never shown its preferences”.
The CPC has over forty members in the House.
Meanwhile, the leading party, PDP has stuck to its guns on the choice of South_West for Speakership, as Reps Muraina Ajibola and Mulikat Ajibola all from Oyo State slug it out.
