Port Harcourt – Voters in the Rivers State Local Government Area election, failed to turn-up on Saturday, to vote for chairmen and councillors in many councils of the state.
Vanguard investigation in Ikwerre, Etche, Ahoada, Obio/Akpor, Elele, Omuma and Eleme, showed that the election materials did not arrive at the stipulated time, while the voters also appeared not to be interested in the election.
However, the turnout was comparatively impressive in Ubima community, in Ikwerre Council, the country home of Governor Chibuike Amaechi, apparently because the governor visited his home to cast his vote.
There was also the allegation that the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, told its members to boycott the election because of perceived irregularities allegedly “spearheaded and supported by the state Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC.”
