Following the inauguration of Jaret Tenebe-led Nigeria Football Association weekend to rival the FIFA recognised Nigeria Football Federation that is headed by Alhaji Aminu Maigari, a lorry load of armed policemen have been drafted to the NFF secretariat.
The policemen who displayed the deadly weapons they were carrying, took over all the exit points and strategic locations at the NFF secretariat.
It was learnt that the policemen arrived as early as 6am Monday to perhaps prevent Tenebe and his group from gaining access into the Glasshouse.
Tenebe, who has an-nounced Barrister Kayode Ajulo; a senatorial candidate in the April election as the interim secretary general of the NFA, has over the weekend informed that he would visit the Glasshouse yesterday.
At the inauguration over the weekend, Tenebe said the decision to take the steps his group took was informed by the fact that Nigeria’s national interest must be protected.
“Non Nigerians cannot come down here to help us to correct the cancer that is steadily eating and killing the game.
“It is sad but true that our sports, especially football does not have institutions. That is why the problems we’ve had since 1945 when football came to Nigeria has persisted. That is why everything revolves around one person at any point in our football”, Jaret Tenebe said.
He was emphatic when he stated that there were several court affidavits the NFF have sworn to denying that they were the NFA.
“By logic, the NFA is existing in vacuum. By law, there is no NFF anywhere. It is the vacant social institution called NFA we are moving into; the NFF, in one of their affidavits said that the monies they get from the Federal Government are grant-in-aid which they do not have rights to account for.
“We are legal. We are an association of stakeholders in football. We discovered there was a vacuum. This vacuum we are filling on an interim basis until the statutes are followed to fill in the various elective positions”, he said.
World Football governing body, FIFA, had last week slammed those behind formation of another football body and on Friday, the Federal Government, through the sports ministry, condemned the group, saying that they only recognised “Nigeria Football Association, in other words, the Nigeria Football Federation.”
