Ogun House resumes sitting 9 months after

By  Kolade Larewaju
ABEOKUTA – It was castigation galore for the Governor Olugbenga Administration of Governor Olugbenga Daniel Tuesday as the  Ogun State House of Assembly resumed sitting after about 9 months break following its closure by the former Governor and cancelled all appointments, recruitments, promotions and upgrading done by the administration in the last three months.

It also dissolved all Boards of Statutory Corporations and Commissions and declared the appointment of three Commissioners – Messers Tunji Akinosi, Yemi Akinwonmi and Ayinde Awobadejo as illegal, null and void ordering them to refund all salaries, allowances and emoluments they must have collected. Also dissolved were the Caretaker Committees in the 20 Local Government Areas of the State

The House also declared the sittings of the faction led by Mr. Soyemi Coker null and void and in the event voided all actions and approvals including the 2010 Supplementary Appropriation and 2011 Appropriation granted the Daniel administration by the illegal House of Assembly.

The House had on September 6, 2010 been high jacked by eight members of the House claiming to form a quorum and took several far reaching decisions including the suspension and removal of Speaker Tunji Egbetokun which led to the closure of the House for several months.

But at Tuesday’s sitting which had no fewer than 14 members of the House led by the Speaker; Mr. Tunji Egbetokun resumed for its valedictory session and began an actual probe of the events and subsequently cancelled several actions taken by the group of legislators said to have been doing the bidding of Daniel.

The Clerk of the House; Mr. Demola Badejo was quizzed on the floor of the House during which he admitted that only eight members sat during the illegal sitting adding that he was “compelled” to give support to the legislators while the Sergeant at Arms confirmed that the Mace – the symbol of the House- used by the few legislators was a fake.

After authenticating the illegality of the sitting of the few Legislators, the House then proceeded to look into all the issues that the illegal sittings approved and proceeded to nullify them including the upgrading of some Traditional Rulers while the Sale of the Gateway Hotels done by the Daniel administration was cancelled.

The Accountant General of the State; Mr. Seye Senfuye has been summoned to appear before the House on Wednesday  at Noon to explain the finances of the House while the appointment of the Auditor General which had been done by Daniel was reversed.
