By Gbenga Oke

LAGOS-DEPUTY Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has said the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan as the President-elect at the just concluded 2011 polls was a victory for democracy in Nigeria.

He also said the victory was not for the President or the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, alone but a resounding victory for Nigerians and the enthronement of democracy.

Senator Ekweremadu, who spoke in a keynote address at a dinner as Grand Patron of Goodluck/Namadi Global Group, GNGG, Dallas, United States of America, commended the group for putting national interest above sentiments to mobilise for and enthrone the new social political order in Nigeria.

He said: “The success of the Goodluck-Namadi ticket at the presidential polls speaks volumes about the character and quality of our rapid evolvement as nation. It showed that Nigerians have an eye for the best, irrespective of region, tribe, and religion.

“It was a re-enactment of the June 12, 1993, election when Nigerians voted massively for the MKO Abiola-Babagana Kingibe ticket, not minding that both were Muslims.”
