ABUJA – President Goodluck Jonathan ,Tuesday, asked the Senate to confirm the appointments of Justices Mary Peter-Odili and N. S Ngwuta as justices of the Supreme Court.

The President in a letter to the Senate, read by Senate President, David Mark, also asked the Senate to confirm Justice O. Ariwola as Justice of the Supreme Court.

He explained that the upgrade of the three nominees from the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court was necessitated by the retirements of four Justices from the apex court.

The letter read: “In conformity with section 231, subsection (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which gives the President powers to appoint a Justice of the Supreme Court acting on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council and subject to confirmation of the appointment by the Senate, I have the honour to forward the under-mentioned names for confirmation as Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

“Hon. Justice N. S. Ngwuta, South East, Justice of Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Mary Peter-Odili, South East, Justice of Court of Appeal and Hon. Justice O. Ariwola, South West, Justice of Court of Appeal.
